Be Still!

It seems like forever (at least to me) since I've posted a new original piece.  Our family has been hit hard with the flu, and then there's just life... But, I'm super happy to show you this new piece I finally finished! It's a brown 16 x 20 canvas with Amharic passages from 1 Corinthians layered in the background. Psalm 46:10 is printed on the Africa decal and Ethiopia is cut out from the continent for emphasis. ;)   What do you think?

"Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." Psalm 46:10

(and don't you just love how this verse is written? I WILL be exalted among the nations...  Oh Lord, right now- with all the craziness happening among the nations- Let it be!!!)

Orthodox Umbrellas

I took this picture in the Merkato in downtown Addis. This, to me, is one of those funny ironies found overseas. In a land of poverty, dirt, and minimalism, the Orthodox priests dress to the nines! Beads, embellishments, intricate details and frills-they've got it all. Not only are their tunics decked out and ornate, but they carry these fancy, frilly umbrellas as well. These umbrellas are not for rainy season, but to provide shade in the summer.  They're beautiful and definitely stand out against the simple culture around them.

The Fruit of the Spirit

I had alot of interest in my previous piece that involved the book of James, so continuing in that style, I bring you the book of Galatians, with an emphasis on the fruit of the spirit.  Like it?  You can find it here.

The Great Commission

Today is my 7th wedding anniversary with my sweet hubby.  Ever since I started this business he's suggested that I make something for our home, but I've always been busy making other things to have free time to do something just for us.  But, since last week was kind of slow and both my kids were sick, and because all of Houston was hibernating because of 'arctic blast' (ha!), I was actually able to make something special, just for him. :)

This piece says one of his favorite verses, the Great Commission, in Amharic. Matthew 28:19-20 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

He loved it! And, now there's something from The Canvas Heart in my home too! :)

Three Priestess's

Well, a week has gone by and I have no new art to display, thanks to the flu.  No, not me-at least not me yet- it's my sweet girls. So, the inflatable princess bed is now in the living room and we've been watching lots and lots of movies...boo for the flu!  So, instead of art, I will show you another one of my favorite pictures from Ethiopia.  This one was taken up north during a trip to Mekele.  These three women live up at the top of a large hill and are 'caretakers' of the local Orthodox Chruch.  Nuns, if you will.  This simple structure behind them is the home they shared
