Eating meat in Ethiopia is considered a privilege and is normally reserved for special guests or holidays, like Easter. When we were living in the countryside some of our Ethiopian friends would come down to visit us near the holidays. Not only did they want to see us ; ), but they wanted to hit the local country market, where live chickens were sold much cheaper than in Addis. They would come with money from their friends and 'stock-up' on chickens. This picture is of my husband (in the green) and some of our friends after taking Alula to the market. We thought it was fun to be driving around with live chickens in the car, and our friend was happy to have saved a little $$. Fun memories. :)

The Choir Sings
One day we were at a park taking wedding photos with an Ethiopian friend and I saw this choir singing. I'm not sure why they were singing in the park-my guess is it was for someone else's wedding. Ethier way it was fascinating to see. Thier sense of tradition runs deeply in the Orthodox church. Even though they are misguided in their beliefs, I appreciate the way they honor what they believe to be sacred. I can learn something from that!

Ordinary Hero Benefit
I am kind of new to the Adoption Blog world, but I happened to glance at the Ordinary Hero website just in time to notice that they are having a benefit dinner next week. Woo-Hoo! I got really excited and contacted them to see if they were still accepting items for their silent auction. I created this piece for them, it says "Change the World for One" in Amharic. It kind of has an old-world feel to it (at least to me!) and I'm proud to give it to this fantastic organization.
